It’s another addition from the transfer portal for Dan Lanning.
On Sunday, the Ducks landed former Alabama safety Peyton Woodyard. After committing to the Crimson Tide in January, he recently entered the portal with a ‘no contact’ tag — which led fans to believe that he already had his destination picked out.
That came to light on Sunday, when the 6’2’’, 188-pound defensive back announced that he would flip to the Ducks. He’ll have all four years of playing eligibility left at Autzen Stadium — and while Oregon has already added a free safety through the portal (Kam Alexander from UTSA) and expects 2023 transfer Tysheem Johnson to hold down the other slot, Woodyard will be an important piece for the future.
Woodyard’s transfer continues to display the ripple effect of the Ducks’ all-out attack on the transfer portal, even after spring football has concluded. Oregon has replaced nearly every piece that it lost to the NFL Draft and graduation with one of equal or greater value, and is expected to compete for its inaugural Big Ten Championship and in the expanded edition of the College Football Playoff.
