The third day of the 2024 NCAA Track and Field National Championships is set to kick off Friday afternoon. Elliot Cook is set to compete in the men’s 1500 meters and Annika Williams and Taylor Chocek begin the first half of the women’s heptathlon.
Men’s 1500m final | Friday, 6:12 p.m.
The Ducks originally had three athletes in the men’s 1500 meters, but are down to one after Rheinhardt Harrison and Tomas Palfrey missed the cut for the final. Cook — who’s the Pac-12 Champion in the event — recorded the best time in the 1500 meters in Wednesday’s semifinal.
He’ll try and cross the finish line first once again to be crowned the NCAA Champion.
Heptathlon | Friday
Thanks to the late addition of Williams announced earlier in the week, the Ducks will have two athletes in the women’s heptathlon. Williams finished fourth at the Pac-12 Championships which gave her the fifth-best point total in program history. Chocek finished 17th in last year’s NCAA Championships but was the runner-up in the Pac-12 this season.
The first four of the seven heptathlon events will take place on Friday, as follows:
100m hurdles (1:00 p.m.)
High jump (2:00 p.m.)
Shot put (4:00 p.m.)
200m (7:43 p.m.)
The finals will commence on Saturday for the women. Follow along with the Emerald’s coverage of the 2024 NCAA Track and Field Championships on X, @ODESports
