Tobin Klinger will no longer fill the University of Oregon Senior Director of Public Affairs Communications position, which he held since 2014.
Klinger will be moved to special projects at the UO, according to Kyle Henley, VP of University Communications in an email to the Emerald.
“If my 18 years in higher education have taught me anything, it’s that change is a constant and you need to stay nimble and be able to roll with evolving priorities to be successful,” Klinger said in a message to the Emerald.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in University Communications. We’ve weathered many storms, vastly improved relationships with the media and built a robust and highly credible news hub in Around the O,” Klinger said.
Around the O is UO’s blog containing campus news and announcements.
“Tobin has been the face of the UO through thick and thin, and I’m grateful for his poise, professionalism and high ethical standards,” Henley said.
“He has helped build Around the O into a best-in-class digital news platform and played a significant role in helping sharpen the focus of our media relations efforts on academic and research excellence.” Henley said.
Klinger was recently portrayed negatively in Joshua Hunt’s new book, University of Nike, as reported today in Eugene Weekly. However, Henley said that the portrayal in the book “has no connection whatsoever” with the decision.
