This game against Nevada was De’Anthony Thomas’ true coming out party, the fumbles against LSU a distant speck in the rearview mirror. He was electrifying that day, even prompting me to write this about his exciting future. We’ve seen countless more highlights now, and this catch has probably been forgotten by most. But it can be remembered as the start of one of the most impressive true freshman seasons in recent memory, and a career that could one day take Thomas all the way to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York City. And there’s something about the color coordination on this day, with the sea of yellow in the crowd matching Oregon’s jerseys perfectly, that makes the photo even more compelling.
