Oregon’s redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota has earned the distinction of appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated, which came out today.
Mariota, who is garnering national attention for his performance this season, is appearing on the cover of the magazine for the second time this season. In August’s college football preview, he appeared on a regional cover. His 2013 campaign is headlined by 2,281 passing yards and 511 rushing yards, while accounting for 29 total touchdowns.
The headline, “The Colossus,” is shown with a photograph of Mariota losing his cleat. The secondary headline says: “Oregon redefined West Coast football, now it’s time to conquer America (they’re coming for you, SEC.)”
The issue includes a feature piece by SI writer Austin Murphy, who covers in detail the rise of the Pac-12 as No. 2 Oregon prepares to travel to No. 5 Stanf0rd in a game which will have national championship implications on Nov. 7.
