Brandon McIver finally was able to just play golf. After what probably felt like an eternity since he received a phone call inviting him to play in the 114th U.S. Open, the Billings, Montana native teed off at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club for his first round Thursday morning.
Though however memorable it may have been to play in his first U.S. Open, the course had its way with McIver throughout the 18 holes. In total, McIver dealt with four bogeys, three double-bogeys and one triple-bogey on his way to a first round score of 82 (+12). He did birdie once on the par 5 fifth hole.
Paired in a group with Maverick McNealy and Smylie Kaufman, McIver will tee off at 2:21 (ET) Friday before the cut is made.
