– One of the biggest rivalries in college sports will headline day one of the Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament, as Oregon (22-8, 10-8 Pac-12) and Oregon State (16-14, 8-10) will partake in a Civil War game for the third time this season. The game will take place at 6 p.m. tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The teams split the regular season, with the Beavers winning 80-72 first and the Ducks taking the second game 93-83. Both victories came on the winning team’s home court. The game will mark an NCAA-record 341 games played between two teams. This will be the first time these teams have played in the Pac-12 Tournament. @@ facts checked @@
– Emerald sports reporter Hayden Kim appeared on KWVA Sports’ “Quack Smack” last night. He spoke with host Travis Teich and panelists Andrew Murray and Preston Hiefield. Oregonian columnist John Canzano appeared on the show, as well. Kim spoke about the softball team’s chances heading into the Rainbow Wahine Classic, as well as discussing how he feels the Oregon men’s basketball team can fare in the Pac-12 tournament. On the show, Kim said the Ducks will win the tournament outright. KWVA’s Quack Smack airs from 6-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and will continue to feature an Emerald sports reporter every Tuesday. – The Oregon men’s golf team finished in ninth place at the Bandon Dunes Championship tournament. The team posted a final score of 289-297-304-890. The result was somewhat disappointing for a team that started the tournament in a much better position. The scores from the individuals continued to drop as the days went on, placing them 27 strokes behind tournament winner Missouri. Thomas Lim led the Ducks, finishing tied for seventh with a 4-over par score of 68-76-73-217. – Oregon acrobatics and tumbling picked up its 23rd and 24th straight victories after defeating Quinnipiac and Azusa Pacific in its first tri-meet of the season. The Ducks finished with a score of 280.570, narrowly edging out Azusa Pacific, who scored 278.450. Quinnipiac finished in third with 270.180 points. The Ducks got out to a fast start but Azusa Pacific was right on their heels throughout the evening. It wasn’t until Nicole Erlichman and Tara Lubert posted back-to-back scores of over the 9.9 mark that the Ducks were able to pull away. @@ facts checked @@
– Two members of the Oregon indoor track and field team were honored Monday night by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Middle distance runner Laura Roesler was named West Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year while assistant coach Curtis Taylor was named West Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year. Roesler currently leads all collegians at the 800 meters in 2:01.32, a school record time. She also participated on the Ducks’ third-ranked distance medley relay and 4×400 team. Taylor, who is in his first year at Oregon, coaches sprints, hurdles and relays. He had six sprinters finish the season ranked in the top 15 nationally. Roesler will be competing at the 800 meters, the 4×400 relay and the distance medley relay at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.
– After completing a nine-match win streak, Oregon men’s tennis has achieved its highest ranking in team history. Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s poll has them at No. 30. The Ducks (12-1) improved four spots in the latest rankings. The team’s only loss this season came from No. 10 Duke. Individually the Ducks have been led by senior Robin Cambier, who is ranked 110th nationally in singles. The Belgium native is also set the record for most wins in program history with 85.
