After finishing non-conference play leading the nation in scoring at 105.3 points per game, the Oregon women’s basketball team had every reason to be optimistic heading into their showdown at Stanford. All those good vibes came flying down as Oregon was held to a season-low 66 points in their 96-66 loss to the nation’s fourth-ranked team. A battle was expected between the conference top two scorers in Chiney Ogwumike of Stanford and Chrishae Rowe of Oregon but, just like the final score, it wasn’t even a contest. Ogwumike notched game-highs of 33 points and 14 rebounds while also becoming the Pac-12’s career rebounding leader. Rowe struggled against one of the better defenses in the country by shooting just 3-for-16 from the floor and being held to 11 points.
Jillian Alleyne of Oregon continued to prove her dominance as one of the best post players in the conference with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Oregon kept the game close early on, trailing 14-13 six minutes into the game but it was the closest they’d get. Stanford used their depth to go on a 8-0 run over the next two and a half minutes to pull away. The Cardinal led 51-34 at the half. The Ducks were able to pull within 15 points multiple times in the half but could never mount a serious run as Stanford’s defense held Oregon’s potent three-point shooting to just 6-for-26 on the night. The Cardinal shot 12-for-25 from deep. Oregon returns to action Sunday when they face No. 23 California at noon in Berkeley, Calif.
