As if we weren’t already dreading finals week, the weather literally decides to rain on our parades.
According to Justin Stapleton, KEZI 9 News Chief Meteorologist, Eugene will be seeing heavy rainfall over the next week. “You should expect to see rain every 24 to 36 hours. A storm is planned to come in Monday and will continue throughout the week,” Stapleton said.
Typhoon Hagupit, a powerful tropical cyclone in the tropical western Pacific Ocean, is likely to blast its way into the Philippines this weekend.
“There is a good chance that the leftovers of the “Super Typhoon” will get caught into the jet stream to come into the Pacific Northwest,” Stapleton said.
Teleconnections are what keeps all of the weather systems connected across the planet and are often the culprit responsible for abnormal weather patterns over long distances.
“Something happening in Japan can affect us here in the northwest, much like the Arctic Outbreak we saw not too long ago. Its something we watch carefully with potentials of big storms as they often are caused by getting caught in the jet stream,” Stapleton said.
It is very likely that this will be the case next week with heavy rain storms.
“I am expecting some of the leftovers of the typhoons here in our neck of the woods. They take about seven to 10 days to make their way over here,” Stapleton said.
The weather does not call for snow.
