The 2024 ASUO presidential election will go to a runoff, the ASUO Elections Board announced.
None of the 2024 presidential candidates — Cash Kowalski, Mariam Hassan or Max Jensen — won the majority vote of 50% necessary to avoid a runoff.
Hassan, running with Kiki Akpakwu on the OurUO slate, received the highest percentage of votes with 44.9%. Jensen, running with Maxwell Gullickson on the UO Student Power slate, received the second highest percentage with 28.6%. Kowalski, of the Flock Forward slate, received 24.8% and will not be placed on the runoff ballot.
Of the 25 other races on the ballot, all but five will also go to a runoff election. 2,572 students, roughly 11 percent of eligible voters, cast a ballot — a low tally, but a significant increase from 2023, when roughly 1,500 students voted.
On Wednesday, April 10, polls will open at 9 a.m. for UO students to cast their votes in the runoff election. Polls will close at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 11.
