The Oregon Ducks (5-4) were able to take revenge in dominant fashion on the Loyola Marymount Lions (2-4) after suffering an upset loss in the previous game at the Campbell/Cartier Classic. After failing to score a run against Loyola Marymount yesterday, Oregon’s offense wasted no time in proving that trend would not continue on Saturday. The final score was a convincing 8-0 win for the Ducks to get back in the win column.
After an uneventful 1st inning, Oregon got the scoring started with a homerun from Vallery Wong that also brought KK Humphreys home. The Ducks were able to get a couple more runners on base after the homerun, but were unable to capitalize with the bases loaded.
The Ducks’ Elise Sokolsky (2-0) earned the win and had a great pitching performance in her four innings pitched. Her performance included five strikeouts while allowing just three hits.
Oregon capitalized on the chance to extend its lead. A solo homerun from Alyssa Daniell in the 3rd inning and Regan Legg taking advantage of a wild pitch to get home in the 4th inning gave the Ducks a 4-0 lead through the 4th.
Taylour Spencer came in from the bullpen for Oregon in the 5th inning and was able to continue the shutout. She allowed four hits in her two innings, but none resulted in runs for the Lions.
The Ducks’ half of the 6th inning began with a single from Humphreys, who stole second base soon after. She was able to score on a single from Wong right after. The Ducks loaded the bases, and scored their second run of the inning when Hanna Delgado was walked. Ariel Carlson was walked immediately after, bringing in a third run. A single from Emma Kauf brought in the fourth run of the inning, making the score 8-0 and ending the game on a run-rule.
The Ducks’ offense was on full display in the game, getting 11 hits to score their eight runs. The defense was stellar as well. Oregon allowed just seven hits in the shutout, six of which were mere singles.
The Ducks have their fourth game of the Campbell/Cartier Classic at 5:30 Saturday night where they will take on the San Diego Aztecs.
