Opinion: Has your TikTok been flooded with “UFO” sightings? Have some of them looked a little too real? Do you wonder if they actually are real? Me, too.
———-
You’ve probably seen the videos of alien sightings on social media. Some of them are laughable, yes, but not all of them. Some of them even have me convinced, and I’ve never been one to believe in extraterrestrial life on Earth. But are any of them real? Are aliens real? And if they are, are they sticking around Earth long enough to be photographed?
It’s indisputable that the universe is enormous. In the expansiveness of the universe, there are billions of planets. With a cosmos this huge, containing so many planets, I find it very hard to believe that we occupy the only life-producing planet.
Considering those ideas, aliens probably exist. There is evidence to back up that claim, although they are slightly controversial. The issue with claims like this is that there is no way to be one hundred percent sure unless an alien is staring you in the face. There will always be people who doubt things until proven otherwise and people who believe in things until they are disproven.
What we do know for a fact is that a supposed whistleblower named David Charles Grusch claimed to have seen proof of non-human vehicles and communication while working on covert operations for the U.S. government. We also know that his statements led to a congressional hearing, so they were taken seriously. With that in mind, his claims could have held some truth.
Let’s say for argument’s sake that aliens do exist; Grusch was telling the truth. Would they be hanging out on Earth?
My guess is no, and here’s why. Firstly, I don’t think a species with the technology to make it to Earth would be an obvious-looking alien. I think that they would have some sort of cloaking technology so we wouldn’t know an alien even if we were sat next to one. And more importantly, they probably wouldn’t want to spend that much time on Earth.
In a universe as vast as this one, where there are dozens of planets with the same environment as Earth, even if this was the only atmosphere in which the aliens could survive, they would still have other options. Considering how humanity has treated our environment thus far, I wouldn’t want to vacation on Earth. I wouldn’t even really want to come and collect data if I was traveling from a different planet.
“I don’t see why they would want to be in a war-ridden place like Earth,” Tessa Paulsen, a student at UO, said.
She raises a good point. If these were beings trying to start again, they probably wouldn’t want such a hostile environment. And, if they were a violent species, we would know.
Considering these beings would have the technology to easily make it to other planets, we’d be losing a war with them, and their weapons would render ours useless.
So, to recap, are aliens real? Probably, but no one is a hundred percent on either side. Do I think aliens would routinely hang out on Earth? Probably not. And I don’t blame them.
