Finding new music can be hard, especially if you’re feeling stuck in a rotation of playlists and albums. Thankfully, with the New Year comes a slew of new releases. This list will hopefully expose you to some new artists or at least have you revisiting some old favorites. Here is a comprehensive list of recent releases, all of which are the highly anticipated returns of female icons, as well as a couple of future releases to keep an eye out for.

Favorite track: I Want You (feat. Galantis)
Extension- Kylie minogue (dec 8)
- Kylie Minogue is said to be the most accomplished female musician to come out of Australia, and for good reason. Her 2001 album, Fever, has over half a billion streams, and her 2015 cover of “Santa Baby”, is one of the most popular renditions of the song. This new record is an expansion on her earlier release, ‘Tension’, released in mid-2023. ‘Tension’ and the following, ‘Extension’, are her first full album releases in nearly ten years. Textbook dance-pop runs deep through both albums and you can be sure to be having a good time when they’re on.
Favorite track: Hold on to Now
Pink Friday 2- Nicki Minaj (dec 8)
– Nicki Minaj’s, ‘Pink Friday’, could be described as one of the most influential albums of our generation. ‘Superbass’ was probably one of the first songs you ever learned all the words to, and still, 13 years later, it holds as a no-skips record. Minaj announced ‘Pink Friday 2’ when she knew it would be appreciated the right way. She returns to her original, unforgettable style, on this record. She does not shy away from the quick tongue and cheek lyricism of her original music, while still staying with her “for the girls” attitude. With features from artists such as: Lil Uzi Vert, J Cole, Lil Wayne, and Drake, it is a truly star-studded record.

Coming in 2024:
Orquídeas- Kali Uchis (jan 12)
– Kali Uchis knows how to push out hit after hit. Her 2023 release, ‘Red Moon in Venus’, garnered nearly one billion streams in just under one year. She has created her own space in the R&B world by pulling inspiration from her Columbian heritage as well as her East Coast upbringing. Taking influence from 90s-female R&B as well as Reggaeton and traditional South American musicians, she has become one of the most prominent female musicians throughout the Americas. Her highly anticipated 2024 record, Orquídeas is rumored to be an extremely worthy addition to Uchis’ discography. If her previous releases are any insight into this new project, it will showcase Uchis’ unrivaled ability to mesh beautiful lyrics with smooth beats. She has also announced a tour centered around the release of this album in mid-2024. Look out for this album in early January, it will be the perfect addition to the “New Year, New You” mentality.
We all know that with the right playlist anything is possible, and with all these new releases, 2024 seems to be panning out to be a year of energy, excitement, and opportunity. The New Year wipes the hypothetical slate clean, so why don’t we all also have a fresh start to our music? Try something new, revisit something old, and use these fresh releases as inspiration for new favorite musicians and songs.
