The Oregon Ducks were able to ride a strong second half to a 76-47 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack. After losing their last contest to the Santa Clara Broncos, the Ducks were able to rebound with a massive victory with a dominant second half performance.
Although Oregon was able to enjoy a massive second half advantage, the first half made it seem like the Ducks could fall victim to another upset loss. Oregon had a lead of just one with a halftime score of 33-32. However, a switch seemed to flip with the Ducks coming out of the halftime break. The Oregon offense came alive, and the defense was able to stop Nevada on every possession. A massive 17-0 run to begin the second half gave Oregon a huge lead that it would not relinquish.
A 43-15 second half advantage in favor of the Ducks was the difference in the game. Oregon was able to hold the Wolf Pack scoreless until over eight minutes had passed in the third quarter.
The Ducks continued their inefficiency on three-point attempts. After shooting 1-7 from three in the first half, a 3-7 performance in the second half was able to bring the percentage up to a more respectable, but still poor, 28.6% clip.
The leading scorers for Oregon were Grace VanSlooten and Sarah Rambus who both had 17 points on the night. VanSlooten also added a career-high 16 rebounds in the game. Rambus, who is a freshman this year, set her career high in points as well. Chance Gray approached a triple-double, but did not quite get there in any stat. She scored nine points, grabbed eight rebounds and had seven assists in the game.
The Ducks’ height advantage was on full display in the game, where they dominated the glass. Oregon outrebounded Nevada 58-35. In addition to the rebounding from VanSlooten, Philipina Kyei and Kennedy Basham both recorded 10 rebounds as well.
The win gives the Ducks a much needed bounceback win over a non conference opponent. For a team that has eventual NCAA Tournament hopes, it is essential to not let a tough loss affect how they play going forward.
Oregon will look to continue its newfound momentum in their next game on the road against the Portland Pilots on Nov. 30 at 6:00 p.m.
