The ASUO senate heard requests from ten student organizations at its Wednesday meeting.  Ethos Magazine’s special request drew criticism. Ethos requested $9,000 in funds and a transfer of $500 from its “Bandest of the Bands” event, which will be used in preparation for its event, “UO Block Party” — a neighborhood block party planned to be held at the 14th and Hilyard cross street.  The funds would be used for crowd management services, insurance, street permits and production equipment.
Senators Connor Lasken, Andrew Lubash, Hao Tan and Will Iversen were among those who voiced concern with funding the group with the requested figure.  Lasken expressed disagreement with funding the event at all, and that he doesn’t think student money should be going towards, “events that put our students in that kind of [intoxicated] environment.”
Senator Sisk was one senator who supported granting the request in full.
“In my two years in senate, there has not been a single other group on campus that has worked as hard with ASUO senate and planned things out as far in advance like Ethos has,” Sisk said. 
Senator Lubash was in favor of partial funding He said that funding the full request would be “irresponsible” since he believed that that Ethos did not need all the money it had requested.
 A motion was passed to amend the special request from $9,000 to $6,500 from surplus; however, a roll call vote on the whole motion itself failed to pass.  Although the transfer request of $500 was later passed, the amended special request was tabled until the first week of spring term.
The senate approved a special request from the Coalition Against Environmental Racism, which requested $10,000 to bring indigenous rights activist and 1992 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Rigoberta Menchu Tum, to speak on campus at the Beall Concert Hall on April 17.
Two other special requests passed, which would bring comedian guest speakers to the University of Oregon campus. These were the Arab Student Union’s special request for $15,000 to hold an event featuring the Iranian-American comedian Maz Jobrani and the Asian Pacific American Student Union’s transfer request to bring Asian-American Youtube comedian celebrities David So, Awkwafina and Dumbfounded to perform stand-up comedy. 
Senate also passed an ASUO Constitution Court resolution, which involved amending the ASUO constitution to require a ¾ vote to remove an ASUO Constitutional Court Justice.  The rule currently states that twelve senate votes are needed.  This ratio would be the same as what is called for in removing an ASUO president.
 Senator Iversen talked to the other senators about his belief that Con. Court justices should need more votes to be removed from office, to avoid political attempts at removing them.
