– Football season is back. Coming off a 42-20 national championship loss three months ago, the Oregon football team is back in pads and preparing for the upcoming 2015 season. Spring football kicked off yesterday and among the top storylines throughout the camp is the search for Marcus Mariota’s replacement and the health of Bralon Addison and Tyler Johnstone.
– Throughout the first day of spring football, the top story was Charles Nelson. The dynamic freshman really came on at the end of the season as a wide receiver and special teams player but is expected to be playing a different position for the Ducks this fall. According to head coach Mark Helfrich, Nelson has been switched to the defensive side of the ball and is taking part in defensive back drills.
– After winning the series 2-1 against No. 18 Washington, the Oregon softball team is ranked No. 1 in the nation, ahead of No. 2 LSU and No. 3 Florida. The Ducks have four losses on the year but all of have come against top-25 teams. Oregon tied the NCAA record for most homeruns in an inning with five as the Ducks hit eight homeruns en route to a 15-6 win over the Huskies on Sunday afternoon.
– Two days after dropping out of the top-25 poll, the Oregon baseball team was unable to stop the bleeding. The Ducks fell to the Portland Pilots by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday night in Eugene. Portland entered the game with just a 5-24 overall record but used three Oregon errors to get three unearned runs to aid in the win. With the loss, Oregon drops to 4-10 in its last 14 games.
– Jillian Alleyne was named to the AP All-American third-team after receiving honorable mention honors last season. Alleyne led the Ducks in nearly every statistical category as she finished the year with averages of 18.4 points and 15.2 rebounds in 34.7 minutes per game.
– Oregon’s Cheridan Hawkins and Geri Ann Glasco took home Pac-12 player of the week honors. Glasco was named the player of the week and Hawkins was named the pitcher of the week after a dominating performance over Washington. Glasco went 8-for-10 over the three games, posting four homeruns, five runs and six RBI’s. She also had an offensive performance for the ages when she hit three homeruns in Sunday’s series-clinching win. Hawkins threw her first career perfect game in the opening game of the series, an 8-0 win for the Ducks.
