The Eugene Police Department published a news release today regarding an “unruly gathering” that occurred at a house party on 1875 Alder St. Saturday night.
Eugene Police said that minors at the party were moving onto the third story rooftop to avoid getting minor in possession of alcohol citations. Eugene Fire was called to the scene.
A total of 41 partygoers were given citations. Four of them were the residents of the party and received citations for loud noise, unruly gathering and furnishing alcohol to a minor.
The police said those same four residents had also received prohibited noise citations Feb. 1 at the same location.
A total of 34 individuals were cited, one person was cited for providing false information to an officer, one high school student from California was cited for an MIP and one non-student from California was also given an MIP, Eugene Police said.
Due to the city’s unruly gathering ordinance, which went into effect on March 2, 2013, individuals and property owners are accountable for social gatherings. It applies when alcohol is served or consumed, and when two or more rules are broken.
Police said that nearly all of the people present at the house party were University of Oregon students.
The police’s “party patrol” were out in the West and South University area Saturday night in order to prevent and respond proactively to potential alcohol and party-related problems.
Eugene Police ask that for those who want to throw a party to respect neighbors, invite adults only, monitor noise levels and put safety first.
Students should be aware that receiving an MIP violation carries a fine of up to $350. Giving police false information could carry a fee of up to $2,500, and an unruly gathering citation is punishable by up to $375 in fines.
