Despite the Eugene City Council implementing a code change that would force Uber out of Eugene, Uber drivers, riders and managers gathered at the Erb Memorial Union to rally against this modification. Similar situations have occurred in Portland and Salem, but that hasn’t deterred Uber general manager Brooke Steger from trying to meet with both Eugene City Council members and mayor Kitty Piercy. So far, Steger has gathered over 2,000 signatures to petition for Uber’s presence in Eugene. These petitions were delivered to Eugene City Hall shortly after the rally.
