Cheyenne Wilson’s 16 points and Taryn Wicijowski’s 15 points proved to be too much for Oregon women’s basketball to handle Friday night in Salt Lake City, as Utah edged Oregon 66-64.
Oregon is now 12-14, 5-10 Pac-12.
Jillian Alleyne once again recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Lexi Petersen had all of her 18 points in the second half, while Drea Toler added 12 points, including 10 in the second half.
Petersen recored 14 of Oregon’s final 15 points to help the Ducks tie the game on a three-pointer with 10 seconds left, but Utah answered on the ensuing possession, sinking a layup with 2.4 seconds left.
Petersen’s three-pointer originally gave the Ducks the lead, 65-64, but the score was changed after the Utah official scorer realized they had given the Ducks an extra point with just under two minutes remaining.
Oregon, who averages 6.8 three-pointers a game, made just one three-pointer (1-of-5). Utah was 8-of-20 from three point range.
The Ducks shot 49.1 percent from the field while Utah was good for 41.7 percent.
A 9-2 Utah run gave the Utes a 22-14 lead with 7:20 to go before half. An 8-0 answer by Oregon tied the game at 22. Oregon briefly took the lead 24-22 on a pair of free-throws, but it was tied at 26 at halftime. Jillian Alleyne had 13 points and six rebounds in the first half.
The Ducks committed eight turnovers in the first half, compared to Utah’s five.
In the second half, it was 38-34 Utah with 12:44 remaining. The Utes stretched their lead to 49-38 with 9:08 to go. A Katelyn Loper three-pointer made it 55-49 Utah with 2:20 remaining and the Ducks tied it up with 10 seconds to go before Utah’s Danielle Rodriguez made the game-winning bucket.
Notes: Oregon out-rebounded Utah 35-29. … Megan Carpenter played 16 minutes after fighting foul trouble. She had five points. … Oregon has not won at the Huntsman Center since Dec. 31, 1984.
The Ducks will hit the road early tomorrow morning, playing at Colorado on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
