Oregon lost a tight contest against Tennessee in the final round of the Westbrook Invitational on Monday. After three rounds in Peoria, Arizona, the Ducks clinched second place at 10-under par (854), while the Volunteers finished at 13-under (851).
This is the Ducks’ second top-two finish in as many tournaments this spring. Oregon placed 11th, 8th, 12th and 9th in its fall tournaments.
“We would have loved to come away with a win today, but our team played well,” coach Ria Scott told GoDucks.com. “Our team is starting to realize they can compete with anybody.”
Oregon’s Cathleen Santoso (-5) and Kelsey Ulep (-3) finished second and third in the tournament behind Tennessee’s A.J. Newell, the No. 41 player in the country according to Golfstat. Caroline Inglis (-2) finished seventh while Marcella Pranovia (+4) and Cassy Isagawa (+6) also competed.
The 14-team field included two schools (No. 14 Tennessee and No. 32 Notre Dame) ranked ahead of No. 35 Oregon and two teams ranked close behind (No. 40 Ohio State and No. 42 Wisconsin).
Following the first two rounds on Sunday, Oregon trailed Tennessee by five strokes.
Santoso returned to Westbrook for the first time since last season, when she fired the lowest round in school history (-9). She once again led the pack on the first day, shooting 4-under (140) in 36 holes and tying for first place.
Ulep and Inglis sat in 13th (even par) while Isagawa finished one stroke behind them (+1) and tied for seventeenth.
Marcella Pranovia (+5) scored an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole, one of three players to accomplish that on the day.
Despite recording the second-lowest round in school history, (seven-under, 281), Oregon could only gain two strokes on Tennessee before the final putt.
Ulep (-3) owned the top score for the Ducks, while Santoso, Inglis and Pranovia all shot one-under. Isagawa (+5) struggled in her final round.
Oregon’s 52 birdies ranked first in the tournament for the second week in a row.

The Ducks will take a two-week breather before participating in the Bay Area Intercollegiate on March 9th-10th.
