Everyone knows that the real joy of coming home for the holidays is sitting on your couch and binging through nine seasons of your favorite show and every single Quentin Tarantino movie. Luckily we have a heap of new helpings coming to Netflix for you to devour this month along with your holiday dinner.
A few Netflix Original series and specials are debuting this month as well as a few new offerings on the streaming side.
Netflix originals:
Real Rob (available Dec. 1). Famous people playing exaggerated, fictionalized versions of themselves seems to be a big thing nowadays (see: Master of None, Louie, Maron, etc), and now Rob Schneider has his own series, which focuses on his chaotic daily life in Hollywood. George Lopez and Norm McDonald also star. If you want to feel like it’s 2003 again, this is your comedy.
A Very Murray Christmas (available Dec. 4). In this Sofia Coppola-directed Christmas special, Bill Murray tries to put on his own Christmas special but worries that none of his famous actor friends (all of whom play themselves) will show up due to a snowstorm in New York City. Stars include George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Chris Rock, Michael Cera and Miley Cyrus.
The Ridiculous 6 (available Dec. 11). You may not know (or want) this, but Adam Sandler and his production company Happy Madison are still making movies. This comedy-western in the vein of Blazing Saddles stars Sandler as Tommy, a.k.a White Knife, an orphan raised by Native Americans. Sandler’s co-stars include Taylor Lautner, Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Rob Schneider and Luke Wilson as Tommy’s long-lost brothers on the quest to find their father.
F is For Family (available Dec. 18). If you enjoy Bill Burr’s rant-filled stand-up specials, you’ll definitely want to check out his new animated comedy series, in which he voices disgruntled family man Frank Murphy. Set in 1973 suburbia, Burr’s show is sure to deliver a fresh take on the animated sitcom, especially with his signature Massachusetts accent.
Other Highlights:
Black Mirror “White Christmas” Special (available Dec. 25). Although the Black Mirror Christmas special was released last year, the hour-long episode starring Jon Hamm is coming to Netflix. The rest of the Twilight Zone-inspired sci-fi anthology series is worth watching, and all episodes are currently on Netflix.
Other shows coming include the fourth season of Comedy Bang! Bang! (Dec. 4), the third season of Maron (Dec. 28), and the final seasons of Parenthood (Dec. 30), Hart of Dixie (Dec. 15), and Nurse Jackie (Dec. 31).
If none of these pique your interest, here’s the full list of what’s to come. Movies and TV series that are leaving Netflix this month are in italics.
