Senior Oregon women’s golfer Caroline Inglis capped her impressive fall season with an invitation to practice for the 2016 Curtis Cup. The Curtis Cup will be held in Enniskerry, Ireland at the Dun Lagohaire Golf Club in June of next year.
“I think it’s about time that Caroline recognized herself as one of the elite players in the world,” head coach Ria Scott said with a smile. “She has worked very hard for a very long time and I don’t know of anybody more deserving.”
The Curtis Cup is most well known team trophy for women amateur golfers, awarded in the biennial Curtis Cup Match. Essentially, it’s eight of the best women’s amateurs from the US taking on eight of the top women’s amateurs from Great Britain and Ireland.
For Inglis, the announcement came as a bit of a surprise.
“It didn’t really cross my mind that I was a candidate for it,” Inglis said. “So it was kind of a surprise but at the same time I’ve worked really hard and my ranking has gone up a lot in the last year so I can see how I got the invitation.”
Inglis has had a career start to her senior season. She is currently ranked the 23rd best female amateur in the world by the Women’s Amateur Golf Ranking. She tied a career high at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview when she finished in third place overall. That was the second top 3 finish this season for Inglis this season already as she finished tied for third overall in the Ducks first tournament of the season. She also leads the team with 72.79 scoring average. She’s done it all for the Ducks so far.
“She has been the best senior leader I have ever had in my time coaching,” Scott said about Inglis’ play and leadership. “I hope that the Curtis Cup captains see that her leadership will be valuable on their team.”
Inglis is one of twelve golfers invited to the practice and one of five from the Pac-12. She is also one of the oldest players invited for the US team but doesn’t feel any pressure from that.
“I don’t think there’s added pressure (that I’m older),” Inglis said. “I think if anything I have more experience in a college setting and college golf. It’s just more years under my belt.”
The practice takes place from December 18-19 in Chula Vista, California. Inglis still has a few weeks of practice to prepare herself for this exciting opportunity. She remains grateful for the chance and hopeful that she will earn herself a spot on the team.
I just think it’s a really great opportunity ,” Inglis said. “It would be such a great experience and feeling to be playing for my country if I was chosen for the team.”

The Pac-12 is known for its larger sports. Football, baseball, and basketball usually dominate the national headlines. Golf has flown under the radar, although this year is one of its strongest ever.
