Oregon football’s Royce Freeman and DeForest Buckner appeared on two of the Maxwell Football Club’s preseason awards watch lists on Monday. Freeman is in the running for the Maxwell Award, the year’s best collegiate player, while Buckner is up for the Bednarik Award, which honors the season’s top defensive player in college football.
A true freshman in 2014, Freeman led the team with 1,365 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He was named the offensive freshman of the years in the Pac-12 and a freshman All-American.
Buckner recorded a team-high 13 tackles for loss in 2014 and his 81 tackles led all of Oregon’s defensive linemen.
Marcus Mariota added the Maxwell Award to his trophy case last year while Arizona’s Scooby Wright III collected the Bednarik.
