After losing in heartbreaking fashion to No. 4 Michigan State, the No. 12 Oregon Ducks fell five spots in this weeks release of the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. A mere one yard away from a game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter, the Ducks had to settle for the 31-28 loss and now become the highest ranked one-loss team.
On the other hand, Michigan State moved up one spot to No. 4 and received two first-place votes. Big Ten rival Ohio State kept the No. 1 ranking and picked up the remaining 59 first-place votes after defeating Hawaii 38-0 on Saturday.
BYU had the biggest jump of the week as it went from being unranked to No. 19. BYU defeated previous-ranked No. 23 Boise State in thrilling fashion. For the second week in a row, BYU quarterback Tanner Mangum threw his second consecutive hail mary to seal a Cougars win.
Also joining this week’s poll, in order of No. 23-25, are Northwestern, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State.
Auburn suffered the biggest drop in this week’s poll when the Tigers needed a late touchdown and overtime to defeat FCS power Jacksonville State 27-20. Auburn went from No. 6 last week to No. 18 in this week’s poll.
