Oregon sophomore wide receiver Chance Allen has been granted a full release to leave the program and will transfer, an Oregon official confirmed to Matt Prehm of 247Sports Saturday morning.
According to Chance’s mom Alycia, his decision centered around coming back home to take care of her because she had recently undergone an undisclosed surgery on December 29th, 2014.
“He came home for me and my health,” Alycia said. “He is all I have and I am all he has.”
In regards to Chance deciding to transfer due to lack of playing time, Alycia said it was more about supporting his family than anything.
“He loves Oregon,” Alycia said. “Playing time was not a factor at all. We have been there three years and it has not been a factor.”
She added: “Chance has lost a lot of special people in the last three years and the thought of me having surgery scared him. So he said ‘mom, I’m coming home to take care of you because I can’t lose you.’
Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle reported yesterday that Allen will apply for a waiver to play next season at the University of Houston, close to his hometown.
Allen appeared in five games this season for the Ducks, but did not record a catch. In total at Oregon, Allen finished with five catches for 98 yards, including one touchdown in 14 appearances.
Allen joined the program in 2012 after selecting UO over Oklahoma, Iowa State, Arkansas and Minnesota.
