Dallas, Texas – Mark Helfrich confirmed that backup running back Ayele Ford had failed an NCAA conducted drug test at Media Day. Just like Darren Carrington, Ford was recently suspended for violating NCAA policies regarding drug use and did not travel with the team to Texas.
Helfrich did not however, disclose which substance Ford was tested positive for. The Ducks will now be without Carrington and Ford, a senior running back and special teams standout in the inaugural College Football Playoff title game.
“It’s kind of sad that the NCAA is making an example out of it,” Devon Allen said about Carrington’s suspension. “If it was year’s past, he wouldn’t have missed the National Championship if he would have failed a drug test at the National Championship, so I think it kind of sucks the way it’s working right now in the College Football Playoff and NCAA kind of working together. It’s relatively new, trying to iron out the kinks, but it’s not really the best thing yet.”
