Oregon track and field closed out the Rod McCravy Memorial in top form Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a strong first day, the Ducks added to their accomplishments – due in large part to the distance runners.
Star sophomore distance runner Edward Cheserek dominated in the men’s 3000, setting a world-leading time of 7:49.56. Cheserek led the entire way, while setting meet and facility records.
His teammate John Gregorek finished second (7:54.85) and redshirt freshman Jake Leingang finished fifth (7:56.81).
The race was the fastest 3,000 in the country to date, with the top five finishers at the meet matching the top five in the NCAA rankings.
Oregon’s Sasha Wallace won the women’s 60-meter hurdles in 8.16, the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Jasmine Todd and Jenna Prandini both found success in the 60-meter dash. The two placed second and third respectively, with Todd crossing the line in 7.26. Prandini was just three thousandths of a second behind.
Oregon’s Nikki Hiltz finished third in the women’s mile, redshirt junior Molly Grabill placed third in the women’s 3000 and freshman Nikolaus Franzmair finished fifth in the men’s 800. Franzmair’s time of 1:49.26 was the fifth fastest in school history.
The Ducks also found success in the field events.
Ryan Hunter-Simms placed ninth overall in the shot put, launching a personal best 58-8 feet on his first attempt of the day. That mark puts him second best in Oregon history — just an inch away from the record.
Matt Hildalgo cleared 16-7.5 for third in the men’s pole vault while Brittany Mann made her 2015 debut in the shot put, finishing fifth (49-7).
