After posting averages of 15.5 points and 9.5 assists last week, Oregon freshman Maite Cazorla was named Pac-12 freshman of the week Monday morning, her first career conference honor.
Cazorla ranks No. 4 nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (4.18) and No. 7 in assists per game (7.1). She had 19 total assists and committed zero turnovers through two games for the Ducks, who remain a perfect 10-0 with one nonconference game to play.
She posted a near triple-double in Oregon’s 122-59 win over Portland State with 16 points, a season-high 12 assists and seven steals. She was also 7-for-8 from the field against PSU.
“Maite is hands down the best point guard I’ve played with,” Oregon senior Jillian Alleyne said after the Ducks’ win against Portland State. “She sees the floor like no one else… She understands the game differently than we do in America. That’s why she sees the floor with X-ray vision.”
The Las Palmas, Spain native has started all 10 games so far the Ducks and has had double-digit assits in two games.
The Ducks return to action after a holiday break when they host Seattle University on Dec. 28 at 6 p.m.
