Oregon dropped its first series of the year over the weekend, losing two of three to Washington in the teams’ Pac-12 conference opener. Oregon starter Alex Keudell allowed seven runs (four earned) over 6 2/3 innings, and the Huskies erased an early 2-0 Oregon lead to cruise to an 8-3 win. Washington’s offense was led by a pinch-hit two-run home run by Ryan Wiggins and a two-hit night by designated hitter Chase Anselment.
Husky starter Aaron West (3-1) pitched six strong innings of two-run ball to earn the win for the Huskies while Keudell (1-3) was tagged with the loss for Oregon.
Saturday (Game One)
Washington freshman pitcher Tyler Davis was nearly flawless in his first collegiate start, and the Huskies shut out Oregon 5-0 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Davis outdueled Oregon freshman Jake Reed (1-2), who pitched an eight-inning complete game but allowed five runs (four earned) and was tagged with his second loss of the season.
Washington got all the offense it would need in a four-run first inning. Saturday (Game Two)
Despite notching only four hits, Oregon salvaged the final game of the series by defeating Washington 3-2 in 13 innings. Oregon outfielder Andrew Mendenhall scored the winning run in the top of the 13th on an error by Washington second baseman Joe Meggs. Despite not allowing an earned run in 3 1/3 innings, reliever Adam Cimber (0-1) took the loss for the Huskies.
Oregon will resume conference play next weekend when they host Utah.
