In a rematch of last year’s title showdown, the Ducks (11-0) completed an undefeated regular season and defeated No. 1 seed Maryland (9-2), 281.935-277.885, Saturday night at the Ferrell Center. Oregon was the only team to beat Maryland this season.
After strong showings in the compulsory round got the Ducks off to a promising start, things only progressed as Oregon took a 96.75-96.10 lead into the half. The Terps made their first move after half, taking a 125.10-124.75 edge following the toss event.
Heading into the tumbling finale, freshman Sarah Moreno@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Sarah+Moreno@@ and sophomore Natasha Katzaroff@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Natasha+Katzaroff+@@ won the duo pass, and Oregon also won the trio pass before Maryland claimed the quad pass. It was a back-and-forth showing in the solo passes, with senior Kelsey Rowell@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Kelsey+Rowell@@ and Katzaroff each winning their passes.
The Ducks went on to score a 99.11 in the team routine to seal the championship victory, while Maryland scored a 95.41. In addition to the team title, Oregon won event titles in heat three of the pyramid, duo, trio quad, aerial and six-element.
