Oregon 3, Washington State 8 – Saturday, April 21, 2012
The Ducks looked like they would take care of the Cougars again on Saturday, dropping two runs in the three innings and scoring 3 in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Excellent pitching by Jake Reed shut Washington State’s offense down through the seventh inning. Reed, who went seven complete innings with no walks, and only 2 runs on 6 hits, was removed at the beginning of the eighth and the flood gates were opened. The Ducks pitching staff allowed a 6-run eighth inning, which they were unable to recover from offensively in their 8-3 loss.

Oregon couldn’t keep up with the Washington offense on Sunday, scoring 3 runs in the first and 5 in the forth to take control. Oregon’s pitching staff didn’t seem to have an answer for the Cougars hitting, allowing a season high 13 hits. Washington State first baseman Taylor Ard was hot, batting in 5 with a 3-run bomb in the first and a two-run home run in the eighth. Oregon began to rally late scoring in the eighth and scoring three in the bottom of the ninth but it was too little too late. With the bases loaded and two outs, Shaun Chase popped one up just beyond first to end the game 10-6.
