Oregon shot a 10-over 294 in the second of three rounds of match play, bringing its total for the tournament to 17-over 585. With only the top eight teams advancing to quarterfinals play after the third round on Thursday, the Ducks will have a good bit of ground to make up in a short time.
Senior Daniel Miernicki was the only Oregon player to break par on Wednesday, shooting a 1-under 70 and climbing to a tie for 10th overall after struggling with 2-over 73 on day one. The fortunes were reversed for fellow senior Andrew Vijarro, who followed his opening round 1-under 70 with a 4-over 75 and fell from a 10th place tie to 25th. Pac-12 Player of the Year Eugene Wong shot a second round 74 and is slotted in a tie for 37th place, while freshman Jonathan Woo and junior Robbie Ziegler followed in tow at 92nd and 151st place respectively. @@http://www.ncaa.com/content/di-mens-golf-team-leaderboard@@
No. 2 Alabama remains in the overall lead with a total score of 4-over 572, while No. 5 UCLA (8-over 576) and No. 19 Florida State (12-over 580) rounding out the top three. Individually, Illinois’ Thomas Pieters holds a two-stroke lead over UCLA’s Anton Arboleda and Florida’s Tyler McCumber, who are tied for second. So far, just seven players hold total scores below par.
The third and final round of match play begins Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
