If you are planning on sticking around Eugene for spring break, you might want to consider a weekend or week-long trip to one of Central Oregon’s many resorts. Grab a couple friends or call your family and check out what these resorts have to offer.
Black Butte Ranch
If you’re looking for a gorgeous and slightly luxurious getaway, Black Butte Ranch@@http://www.blackbutteranch.com/@@ is the place to go. It’s located near the quaint town of Sisters, Ore., and is around a two-hour drive from Eugene.
Its views are breathtaking.
“The main thing that stands out is that there are no power lines. They are all underground,” said University senior Ian Fadden@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Ian+Fadden@@.
This clever design allows the incredible views of Sisters Mountains to always appear in the backdrop.
Black Butte Ranch also provides an array of activities such as golf, kayaking, horseback riding, biking and hiking. Activities at Black Butte Ranch can be tailored to fit most budgets.
“You can go from the very expensive — they have fine dining and a spa — to the inexpensive — lounging by the pool or biking over to the nearby lake,” said University senior Allie Gavette@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Allie+Gavette@@.
Sunriver Resort
Sunriver Resort@@http://www.sunriver-resort.com/@@ is another great option for college students to consider for spring break. It’s less than a three-hour drive from Eugene and is about 30 minutes from Bend.
You can rent a house, a condo or a cabin, and you could easily split the cost between a couple friends, or even go with your family.
There are tons of things to do in this family-friendly resort community — kayaking, canoeing, bicycling, golfing, hiking, shopping and dining.
Fadden, who has visited Sunriver five times, said his favorite memory was when he and his friends “took kayaks and canoes out and went to the shoreline of the one of the rivers.”
It’s a perfect place to relax and get in touch in with nature, without being too far from civilization.
Seventh Mountain Resort
Seventh Mountain Resort@@www.seventhmountain.com@@ is located seven miles from Bend, Ore., and is generally slightly less expensive than Black Butte Ranch and Sunriver. It has a rustic feel because much of the lodging consists of cabins.
This is a perfect location to stay if you are planning on skiing or snowboarding at Mt. Bachelor, because it’s the closest resort to the mountain. There’s a large skating rink and when there’s snow you can go on a sleigh ride.
If the weather is warm enough, you can go horseback riding or hike along one of the many trails close to the river.
Its close proximity to Bend also allows for easy access to shopping and restaurants.
“Seventh Mountain is far enough away from any city life to be a laid-back vacation, but it’s close enough to do most of the fun activities,” said University senior Jen Ashley.
