This election season, talk about swing states has been all over the news. However, The Wall Street Journal published a report yesterday on a different sort of swing state — the ones in which residents are split not between political parties but football teams.
Data was collected on which college football team was preferred in 15 states, including Oregon. The results showed that, just as in the presidential election, Democrats and Republicans have some different opinions, including which college football team to root for.
Among overall residents, the University of Oregon had a slight lead of 31 percent to Oregon State University’s 27 percent. Among Democrats and Republicans, though, the results differed greatly. Thirty-eight percent of Democrats favored the Ducks, while 21 percent were Beaver fans. Among Republicans, the difference was nearly as dramatic, with 36 percent favoring the Beavers and 23 percent the Ducks.
