The Ducks women’s basketball team headed to Hawaii in search of their first win but were unable to find it against a now 2-3 Hawaii club as Hawaii won 85-73. The game was the first of three in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu and handed the Ducks their third loss in as many games.
Amanda Delgado lead the team with 19 points, a career high, going 7-13. Other major contributors include Jillian Alleyne who had 16 points and Danielle Love with ten.
Kamilah Martin, one of four players for Hawai’i who finished with double digit scoring, had a dominant performance with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Turning point. The Ducks lead early with a 16-10 lead in the first half but Hawai’i finished the half strong and had a 43-37 halftime lead and never looked back. The lead got as big as 26 points but the Ducks were able to cut into it late, but the comeback effort proved to come too late in the game.
On the horizon. After suffering a season ending injury to projected scoring leader Lexi Peterson and then a two-point loss to Portland State on a night when freshman Jillian Alleyne had 38 points and 27 rebounds, the Ducks have been dealt some unlucky cards. They will look to put the first three games behind them and come out with a win tomorrow when they take on Oklahoma.
