Let’s be honest, Green Day was the best thing since sliced bread back in middle school. After “American Idiot,” not so much. But the band’s latest trilogy project is an attempt to rediscover their roots. On Nov. 13, the kings of teenage angst rock will release the second installment of that trilogy, entitled “¡Dos!”
I often hesitate at the thought of listening to Green Day these days, but there is something about “¡Dos!” that gives off a potent sense of late ’90s nostalgia. Taking into consideration Billy Joe Armstrong’s onstage meltdown a few months back and his recent rehab stint, it seems that Green Day is back to being relevant.
If much of your adolescent music taste involved Green Day, then “¡Dos!” should be an enjoyable listen. To be fair, it’s not the most spectacular album and if you’re expecting another “Nimrod” or “Dookie,” you will be let down. What the album does provide is some catchy retro rock that will restore some of your faith in Green Day.
