In the new AP poll released Sunday, Oregon dropped to sixth, even with a strong win over nationally ranked Oregon State. Because of wins for Stanford and Notre Dame, the Ducks’ chances for playing in the Pac-12 championship game and the National Championship game have been eliminated. Oregon seems to be bound for the Fiesta Bowl. @@http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings@@
With a win over longtime rival USC, Notre Dame remains undefeated and the top team in the nation. They will play in the National Championship against the SEC champion.
Alabama and Georgia both won to remain No. 2 and No. 3 in the poll and will now face off in the SEC championship game for a chance to play for a national title.
Stanford, after beating UCLA, moved up three spots to No. 8 in the poll. With the win, they won the Pac-12 North and will head into a rematch with Pac-12 South champion UCLA on Friday. @@http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings/_/week/13@@
Oregon State stayed put at No. 16 in the poll after their turnover-fueled loss to Oregon. They still have a final game due to a weather related reschedule against out-of-conference Nicholls State.
UCLA was bumped down two spots after losing to Stanford and now reside at No. 17, but will have a shot to redeem the loss in the Pac-12 Championship game against Stanford. The winner will head to the Rose Bowl.
Washington, previously ranked No. 25, lost in the Apple Cup to Washington State 31-28 and now remain unranked. @@http://www.gohuskies.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/112312aaa.html@@
Arizona State rallied back in the fourth quarter to score 24 points on state rival Arizona, then-ranked No. 24, to win 41-34. @@http://www.thesundevils.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/112412aaa.html@@
The BCS rankings will be unveiled on ESPN at 5:30 p.m.
UPDATE:
In the newly released BCS poll Oregon is ranked fifth because Ohio State, ranked fifth in the AP, is ineligible for a BCS ranking due to sanctions.
Other differences include Oregon State and UCLA being ranked 15th and 16th rather than 16th and 17th.
