A grievance was filed against ASUO President Laura Hinman for non-fulfillment Wednesday afternoon.
Sophie Luthin, the petitioner and former campaign manager of Ben and Katie, requested that the ASUO Constitution Court review Hinman’s standing as president. Luthin cites that Hinman did not fulfill her duties in hiring an Elections Boards Coordinator and an Elections Board by Nov. 1.
“Respondent is in clear violation of this rule, as November 1st has past and no Elections Board Chair nor Elections Board has been appointed,” the grievance reads.
In addition to citing that Hinman has not put together a board, the grievance also mentions that the EMU referendum is being held illegally.
“The ASUO Executive is not responsible for holding election. It is clearly (stated) in the ASUO Consitution that it is the responsibility of the Elections Board to hold an election,” the grievance reads.
Luthin cites an email conversation with Hinman stating that the ASUO University Affairs Coordinator, Will Campodonico, was put in charge of the election.
“The ASUO University Affairs Coordinator is a position appointed by the ASUO Executive and is not a position that is confirmed by the ASUO Senate. Thus, the University Affairs Coordinator is not able to be held accountable for running an unbiased election,” the grievance reads.
Luthin, in her grivance, offers a solution to the Consitution Court.
“For there reason, Respondent is in non-fulfillment of duties… Petitioner requests that Respondent be removed from office because of the clear violations of the ASUO Constitution and the severity of the violations,” the grievance reads.
