Pregnant elephant in Oregon
The Oregon Zoo is preparing for one of its elephants to give birth in two months, reported The Oregonian.
The elephant, Rose-Tu, was separated from the rest of the herd as preparation for the big day, in case she is too agitated to be around other elephants.
Synthetic drug affects Oregon teens
Five Oregon teenagers were hospitalized after using the synthetic drug “spice,” reported The Oregonian. Although the ingredients of the drug are unclear, doctors and scientists are seeing a connection with kidney failure after using the drug.
College power outages
Strong winds caused power outages in Clackamas County, including Clackamas Community College and North Clackamas Christian School, reported The Oregonian.
Both schools closed following the power outages. It also affected nearly 2,000 P0rtland General Electric customers.
Portland mayor ends building project.
Portland Mayor Sam Adams scrapped his Oregon Sustainability Center project due to lack of votes, reported The Oregonian.
The Oregon Sustainability Center was to be the nation’s first high-rise building built to ultra-green Living Building standards.
Portland anti-fluoride petition
Clean Water Portland gathered 20,000 votes to oppose Portland City Council’s decision to add fluoride to Portland’s water supply, reported KGW.
Clean Water Portland hopes to gain 10,000 more signatures by next week.
