University of Phoenix announces closure of Oregon locations
University of Phoenix will close three campuses in Oregon, including in Salem, Tigard and Portland, due to low student enrollment, reports the Statesman Journal.
The school’s parent company, Apollo Group Inc., announced closure of 115 of the university’s smaller locations, which will affect 4 percent of its students.
Columbia River fish carry chemicals
Columbia Riverkeeper found high levels of toxic chemicals in fish caught in the Columbia River, reports KGW.
Tests showed that the fishes’ arsenic levels were more than 100 times the safe limit and their cancer-causing PCB levels were 273 times higher than the EPA safe limit.
Legendary Portland developer dies
Portland developer and philanthropist, John Gray, died in Portland on Friday, reports The Oregonian. He was 93.
Gray is most known for his work developing the Oregon Coast’s Salishan Resort, Columbia River Gorge’s Skamania Lodge and Bend’s Sunriver Resort, as well as redeveloping an industrial riverfront into a residential district.
Accident on Highway 99
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the left lanes of Highway 99W at Awbrey Lane on Friday, reports The Register-Guard.
One person was killed and the highway is expected to reopen around 6 p.m.
New business for home business in Springfield.
The EuGenius Market, a business for home-based business that sell goods and services, opened at Gateway Mall, reports The Register-Guard.
The market is open Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and rents starts at $25 a day for a 10 inch by 10 inch space.
