If you’re new to town or electronics and find yourself missing a few cords or in need of a new game, here’s a list of electronics stores to help you with your troubles:
Thompson’s Electronics: If you’re looking for stereo equipment, patch cables or video devices of any kind, Thompson’s is a sure bet for finding what you’re looking for. Some of their selection may seem antiquated, but if you find yourself getting into vinyl collection or looking for a swanky stereo system, this is a good store to start your journey. A good local reputation doesn’t hurt either, as Thompson’s has been open since 1936 and continues to this day. (Thompson’s is located on 1122 Oak St. and is open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.)
Goodwill Computer Store: The place to go for cheap replacement cables. Whether you need USB, 1/8 inch auxiliary or three-prong power cord, chances are Goodwill Computer Store has it. They specialize in refurbished computer parts and are certainly no slouch in their selection, not to mention the occasional unicorn of a deal that only thrift stores can provide: classic PC games, HDMI cables or other rarities for prices way under market value. (The Goodwill Computer Store is located on 1010 Green Acres Road and is open Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
Big City Gamin’: Though major chains like Game Stop and Best Buy offer a level of consistency you can count on, you have to go to the local shops to find anything obsolete or interesting, really. Big City Gamin’ has just that, with plenty of events and services to compete the big dogs. (Big City Gamin’ is located on 1288 Willamette St. and is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
