The Council for Responsible Sport has awarded TrackTown12 with a Gold Certification following its sustainability efforts at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials at Hayward Field, according to KEZI.
TrackTown12 was responsible for organizing the Trials, which sent 126 track athletes to London to represent the United States in the Olympic Games.
According to a TrackTown12 press release, 78.5 percent of waste generated at the trials was composted or recycled, 3.5 tons of CO2 emissions from shuttle buses were offset through BP America’s Target Neutral program and 1,000 free tickets were given to disadvantaged families.
