Stewart’s gift will contribute to the expansion of the Casanova Center, and is specifically earmarked for a running backs’ meeting room. Stewart left UO, his alma mater, with the single-season rushing record, a mark since topped by current San Francisco 49er LaMichael James.
The Washingtonian’s donation comes on the heels of Oregon’s ninth-straight win over Washington.
“I feel truly blessed to be in a position to give back to the University of Oregon,” Stewart said in the release. “I know this facility will provide opportunities and resources to enable Oregon to continue to be the best program in the country; once a Duck always a Duck!”
The project is slated for completion summer 2013. According to the news release, the project will include:
- Coaches’ offices
- Nine football meeting rooms
- Two team video theaters
- Strategy rooms for offense and defense
- Large conference suite for the coaching staff
- New 25,000 square-foot weight room
- Three new football practice fields
