Former Oregon resident to appear on NBC talk show
A former Bend woman’s story will be told on an NBC talk show this Wednesday, according to the Oregonian. NBC Today flew Jennifer Bennett, 25, to New York to speak about her experience as a rape survivor who was asked to show her Google history to defense attorneys. Although the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office refused to comply with the order, the ruling was the first of its kind in Oregon.
Bennett’s attacker was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Bennett said she was sharing her story to encourage other rape survivors to not back down from the scrutiny they often face.
Woman who killed husband to be released from Oregon prison
An Oregon woman who killed her husband 12 years ago in a campground is being released from Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, according to the Register-Guard. Liysa Northon’s story has been recounted in 2003 true crime book “Heart Full of Lies.” Northon claimed to be a victim of domestic violence who defended herself when she killed her husband in 2001, while prosecutors claimed she was attempting to gain life insurance.
After her release from prison, Northon will be residing in Clackamas County.
Body found on Oregon coast identified
A body found near Washburn State Park has been identified as 57-year-old Lowell man Allyn Bradford, the Oregonian reports. Bradford’s body was found on Oct. 4 by beachcombers. An autopsy reveals his cause of death was coronary artery disease.
Steroids linked to meningitis not shipped to Oregon
After a fungal meningitis outbreak caused by steroids that killed 11 people and infected 119 nationally, the Oregon Health Authority declared that no steroids linked to the outbreak have been shipped to Oregon. There have been no cases of fungal meningitis in Oregon.
The Massachusetts pharmacy responsible for the steroids has recalled all its products, according to the Oregonian. The outbreak has been linked to steroid shots for back pain. Despite no reports of fungal meningitis in Oregon, laboratories, hospitals and providers are still on the lookout, and pharmacies in Oregon have been notified of the recall.
17-year-old accused of stabbing Gresham woman
Patrick Kirby III, 17, from Fairview has been arrested on charges of stabbing a woman during a fight over a stolen bicycle, according to the Oregonian.
Kirby was arrested at 9:30 a.m. after stabbing 24-year-old Sharlene Daniels last week. Kirby fled the scene after the incident. Daniels was hospitalized but is expected to survive the attack. Kirby faces an attempted murder charge.
