Two men arrested for firearm possession
63-year-old Jon Jerryl Bellizi and 42-year-old Brian Lee Holbrook were taken into custody after a Eugene police officer found two loaded firearms, possession of methamphetamine and driving with a suspended license, reported The Register Guard.
Both were taken to Lane County Jail for further investigation.
Springfield tax measures.
The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce approved of Measure 20-195 and 20-199 for local residents to vote on November’s election, reported The Register Guard.
Measure 20-195 is a property tax levy that would fund police officers while Measure 20-199 is a bond measure that would improve Willamalane Park and Recreation District’s facilities.
Cottage Grove opens improved park
Cottage Grove residents witnessed the grand opening of Bohemia Park’s amphitheater, fountain and picnic shelter on Saturday, reported the Register Guard.
The amphitheater can hold up to 2,000 people, making it the largest public gathering place in Cottage Grove.
Opera in Springfield
The Cascadia Concert Opera performed a rendition of German composer Otto Nicolai’s, “The Merry Wives of Windsor” at the Wildish Community Theater on Sunday afternoon, reported The Register Guard.
The group is dedicated to making opera accessible to everyone, and is not limited to traditional concert halls, as they have played in various places including retirement homes and public libraries. Their next performance will be at Lane Community College on Oct. 26.
Goshen awaits industrial redevelopment
The Lane County town of Goshen was designated as a “regionally significant industrial area,” and officials are considering a portion of the land for industrial development, reported The Register Guard.
Some of the problems with the land include Goshen’s lack of a sewer system.
