After the 7-1 vote approving EmX expansion in the Eugene City Council work session on Wednesday, Lane County Commissioners are looking at putting a public advisory vote on the ballot, according to KMTR.
The staff of the Lane County Board of Commissioners are currently looking into the legality and feasibility of doing so. Although LTD received approval from City Council, the LTD board and the central Lane Metropolitan Planning Committee, they must also receive approval from Federal Transit Administration. The FTA is the group that ultimately funds the cost of expansion for the EmX.
However, to receive most of the money for the expansion, LTD must show to the FTA that they have public support in the expansion. They could also choose to ignore the public vote and still fund the expansion.
Commissioners are expected to know more about the possibility of the advisory note later in October.
