Wide receiver Josh Huff returned to action for the Ducks on Saturday after missing time due to a sprained knee suffered during Week Two. Oregon was quick to get the ball into his hands, as quarterback Marcus Mariota found Huff on an out route on the Ducks’ first offensive play. Huff struggled to get involved throughout the game, however, and the 11-yard gain was his only recorded reception.
Offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich thought Huff looked okay shaking off the rust.
“He looked like a guy that was making his first return,” Helfrich said after practice Monday. “But Josh has a high standard for himself, he’s a competitive guy and he had a really good practice today. And he’s a guy that is a leader of that unit. We expect great things from him, obviously.”
Huff injured his left knee during a punt return in the first quarter of Oregon’s win over Fresno State.
Volleyball faces California road trip. After a flawless weekend that saw the Ducks sweep Utah and Colorado to earn head coach Jim Moore’s 500th and 501st career victories, Oregon is on the road to Berkeley, Calif., and Palo Alto, Calif., for matchups against California and Stanford.
The Golden Bears dropped out of the rankings earlier this year after being ranked as high as No. 17. The Cardinal sit at No. 7 before the Oct. 1 rankings come out later today. Stanford’s signature win so far this year was a home sweep of the Bears earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Oregon has swept its last six games. The Ducks last dropped a set on Sept. 5 against UC Santa Barbara and have lost only three sets all year. Last year Oregon swept 13 of its 21 wins, but only four of those sweeps came in October or November.
In fact, right around this time last year, the wheels fell off the bus for the Ducks. After cruising to an 11-1 start, Moore’s team lost five of their next six by a combined set score of 7-16.
