An 11-0 start for coach Jim Moore’s women’s volleyball team is turning heads nationally. The Ducks moved up from eighth to second in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association poll and garnered 16 first place votes. The Ducks are one of four Pac-12 schools in the top five and five in the top ten, and are coming off an impressive sweep of then-No. 2 USC in Los Angeles. Not only are the Ducks undefeated, they haven’t even lost a set since Sept. 5 and have won 33 of 36 sets this season.
From The Oregonian, a Q&A with Paul Buker and Washington State beat writer Howie Stalwick. Stalwick discusses the mood in Pullman following the Cougars’ home loss to Pac-12 doormat Colorado and says things could get “really, really ugly” this week when the Ducks and Cougars square off in Seattle — technically a home game for the Cougars — especially if Duck fans travel in large numbers as they’re expected to. There’s fear among Washington State supporters that Oregon fans may even outnumber their Washington State counterparts.
Colt Lyerla spoke with the media after practice Monday about his new role in the Ducks offense.
The Ducks got another win in the recruiting column with the commitment of twins Tyree and Tyrell Robinson, who are each expected to join Arik Armstead as two-sport athletes. The twins are both top-ten athletes on Maxpreps recruiting rankings, with Tyree third and Tyrell eighth. Both play on the defensive side of the ball on the football field and are both shooting guards in basketball.
