Maryn Beutler scored in the 68th minute to give the Ducks the lead over UC Irvine and Oregon’s defense held on for the shutout win in front of 793 at Pape Field. Oregon improves to 3-1-0 on the season with sophomore keeper Abby Steele picking up her third clean sheet of the year.
Achijah Berry started the play that led to the goal by splitting two defenders and shooting on goal, but Irvine’s jennifer Randazzo couldn’t hold onto the save leading to a chaotic sequence in front of the six yard box before the ball finally rolled out to Beutler, who didn’t hesitate to finish her chance.
Oregon moved the ball well but was caught offside eight times on the match, though head coach Tara Erickson liked the aggressive mindset.
“That was a few players that were obviously in offside positions and a couple other ones that were very close,” Erickson said. “If one of those calls doesn’t go against us and I think we’re in behind, so you always want to push that edge.”
