Oregon running back LaMichael James has hired an agent and is set to declare for the NFL draft this afternoon, according to ESPN’s Joe Schad.
The decision has long been expected from James, a redshirt junior who ranks as Oregon’s all time leading rusher and third in Pac-12 history with 5,082 career yards. After travelling to New York as a Heisman finalist in 2010, James followed up with 1,805 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2011 while leading Oregon to a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin on Jan. 2.
The 2010 Doak Walker award winner ranks fourth among running backs according to ESPN Scouts Inc., and is projected as a late second round to third round pick.
